چکیده

Abstract Background Myopic shift and biometric ocular changes have been previously observed after scleral buckling (SB) surgery in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), but long term-term outcomes had not yet explored. The purpose of present study is to evaluate term patients with primary macula-on RRD treated SB. Methods In this retrospective, observational study, we reviewed the medical records undergoing SB for RRD. Ocular biometry was performed before at most recent visit surgery. Axial length (AXL), anterior chamber depth (ACD), corneal astigmatism spherical equivalent eyes were compared as well those fellow eyes. Results Thirty-four 17 a mean age 57.0 ± 8.9 years included. follow-up duration 50.9 21.9 months (median 53.0; range 12 82 months). A significant postoperative AXL increase 0.83 mm concomitant myopic 1.35 diopters operated ( p < 0.0001). preoperative only predictive factor change (B = 0.152, 95% CI 0.059 0.245, β 0.668, P 0.003). Compared eyes, ACD shallowing 0.1 found 0.05), while there no long-term astigmatism. Conclusions We show that Scleral encircling induces AC, therefore fourth generation intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation formulae should be used requiring cataract

Foveal Structure in Macula-off Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment after Scleral Buckling or Vitrectomy

PURPOSE To evaluate foveal microstructural changes and to determine its association with visual outcomes after reattachment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRDs) by scleral buckling (SB) or pars plana vitrectomy (PPV). METHODS Using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), foveal microstructure in eyes with macula-off RRD were studied 1, 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 months after PP...

Macular Hole Formation in Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment after Scleral Buckling

PURPOSE To describe early macular hole (MH) development in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) after scleral buckling (SB) based on optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings. METHODS The medical records and spectral domain OCT images of patients in whom MH developed after RRD repair were evaluated retrospectively. RESULTS A postoperative MH was detected in five eyes that underwent SB ...

Scleral buckling surgery after macula-off retinal detachment: worse visual outcome after more than 6 days.

PURPOSE To determine the effect of duration of macular detachment (DMD) on visual acuity (VA) in patients with macula-off rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD). DESIGN Retrospective observational case series. PARTICIPANTS Two hundred two consecutive patients (202 eyes) with primary uncomplicated macula-off RD, preoperative VA of 10/100 or worse, a precise history of when macular function w...

Chemokine levels in subretinal fluid obtained during scleral buckling surgery after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

PURPOSE Interleukin (IL)-6, a multifunctional cytokine with regulatory functions in wound healing, and several chemokines have been implicated in the pathogenesis of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). The exact role of these chemokines, their correlation with IL-6 after primary RRD, and their association with the future development of PVR are no...

Changes in higher-order aberrations after scleral buckling surgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

PURPOSE To evaluate changes in higher-order aberrations (HOAs) after scleral buckling surgery for the treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD). DESIGN Prospective observational comparative case series. PARTICIPANTS The study included 67 eyes of 67 rhegmatogenous RD patients undergoing scleral buckling surgery, and the fellow normal eyes comprised the control group. Twenty-seven e...
